Cities and Us: How Architecture Shapes Culture

Cities are shaped by their built spaces, influencing how people live, work, and connect. However, urban structures are often designed without fully considering cultural identity, community needs, or sustainability. In this project, students will explore how architecture contributes to building better cities by reflecting history, social values, and functionality. Using research, ideation, and hands-on design, they will construct a model of an urban structure—such as a bridge, marketplace, or public square—that balances aesthetics, purpose, and cultural significance. Deliverables include a design of a physical model of the structure explaining its design choices. Through this project, students will develop creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and an understanding of how architecture can make cities more livable and inclusive.

Guardian Bots: Building Assistive Robots for an Inclusive World

Millions of people with disabilities, visual impairments, or mobility challenges face daily obstacles in performing everyday tasks. Assistive technologies can enhance independence, safety, and accessibility, but innovative, low-cost solutions are needed. In this project, students will design a prototype of an assistive robot using recyclable materials, focusing on improving mobility, task assistance, or accessibility. They will apply human-centered design principles to create a functional, empathy-driven solution that addresses real-world needs. Through this hands-on challenge, students will develop creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and STEM skills while exploring the role of robotics in building a more inclusive world.

Forgotten Heroes – Discovering the Lost Voices of History

History is full of hidden stories—of people who made a difference but never made it into our textbooks. These may be brave freedom fighters, visionary reformers, artists, educators, or local legends whose contributions have faded from public memory. This project invites students to become young history detectives, uncovering and celebrating the lives of their community’s forgotten heroes. Students will research and tell the story of a lesser-known historical figure whose actions helped shape their community, region, or country. The focus is on discovery, storytelling, and empathy—connecting personally with the past and understanding how everyday people can become extraordinary through courage and conviction. In this project, students will select a forgotten or under-recognized historical figure, especially from local or regional history. They will investigate their life and impact through books, articles, oral histories, family accounts, or community elders. Finally, students will create a Hero File—a creative and personal way to bring their story to life. This might include a short written biography or story, artwork or visuals that represent their journey, and a reflection on why their story still matters today. The project will conclude with “Forgotten Heroes: The Exhibit,” a special showcase where you and your classmates will share these rediscovered voices with the school community, helping everyone see how even the quietest contributions can shape history in powerful ways.

Community Changemakers – Designing a Social Enterprise

Every community faces social and economic challenges, from unemployment and discrimination to accessing education and healthcare. Many of these issues persist due to a lack of innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to local needs. In this project, students will act as social entrepreneurs, using their own observations and research to identify a pressing challenge in their local community. They will then design a social enterprise—a business model that balances profit with positive social impact. Using the design thinking framework, students will develop a design for a model of their solution, considering feasibility, sustainability, and scalability. Deliverables include a business canvas, demonstrating their idea, and a social impact plan. Through this project, students will develop problem-solving, leadership, financial literacy, and critical thinking skills while learning how businesses can drive meaningful change.
